The Ginger Marcus Foreign Language Learning Speaker Series
In this workshop, participants will go over techniques of performance watching activity and explore ways to incorporate the activity in foreign language teaching. Applicable to teachers of all languages.
Performance watching is an activity that pushes us to observe a performance with conscious attention to its defining elements. These elements consist of time, place, roles, audience, and script. In the first part of the workshop, we will discuss each of these items and examine how they define performances. I will suggest ways to use performance watching in preparing activities for performance-oriented lessons and in conducting performance-oriented classes. In the second part, participants will engage in performance watching in their respective language and explore concrete ways to use both the analysis and the activity itself in enhancing classroom experiences.
