This course is an introduction to comparative mythology through the lens of linguistic theory. As all of our most ancient mythological narratives are poetic-and given that the production of poetic texts is a fundamentally linguistic enterprise-students will acquire the linguistic skills necessary to fully engage with and analyze the language of ancient mythological texts. This course is for first-year, non-transfer students only.
