Linguistics Seminar: Writing Intensive

LINGUISTICS 396W

This course examines the development of structural linguistics in both the European and American traditions. It will focus on readings by Saussure and structural linguistics other key proponents, including Jakobson, Trubetzkoy, Bloomfield, Hockett, and Harris. Since this is a writing-intensive course, the course will also focus on how to write papers in linguistics. Students will be expected to produce three short and two medium length papers inspired by the readings. Each paper will go through multiple drafts. Prerequisite: Ling 170D and at least one course in Linguistics at the 300 level.
