This course introduces students to syntactic minimalism, the current dominant framework for syntactic theory in linguistics. Students will be introduced to the motivations for adopting minimalism over its predecessors (Government and Binding Theory and the Principles and Parameters framework), learn key minimalist concepts, and command syntactic analysis in a minimalist framework. Prereq: Ling 309 and permission of instructor.
